“The lead that looked comfortable quickly turned into constant pressure”

Wyndham Clark won the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, finishing at 4-under par after a tense final round under heavy pressure from both competitors and the crowd.

Clark had built a strong lead over the first three rounds, but things tightened on Sunday when Sam Burns closed the gap. The final round became a battle of nerves as Clark’s advantage dropped to just one shot at times.

Despite the pressure, Clark stayed composed in key moments. A crucial 25-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole helped him regain control. He later bogeyed the 17th but managed to finish strongly on the last hole to secure victory by one shot over Burns (-3).

Scottie Scheffler finished level par, while Tyrrell Hatton ended at +1. Rory McIlroy struggled in the final round and finished at +6.

Clark also dealt with a hostile crowd in New York, but he stayed focused and blocked out the noise. The win marked a major comeback moment for him after a difficult previous year and secured his second major title.

The victory also boosted his position in the world rankings and confirmed his consistency in high-pressure major tournaments.
