“Argentina’s squad depth was on full display with another confident team performance”

Argentina completed a perfect Group J campaign with a 3-1 victory over Jordan in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, finishing top of the group with nine points from three matches.

Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring with a superb free-kick before Lautaro Martínez doubled Argentina’s lead from the penalty spot. Jordan pulled one goal back through Musa Al-Taamari, but Lionel Messi came off the bench to score a brilliant free-kick in the 80th minute and seal the win.

Messi’s goal also made history, as he became the first player to score in seven consecutive FIFA World Cup matches. It was his sixth goal of the tournament, keeping him at the top of the Golden Boot race.

Despite making several changes to the starting lineup, Argentina controlled the match from start to finish. The reigning world champions now advance to the Round of 32, where they will face Cape Verde.
