Portuguese Grand Prix Set to Return to F1 Calendar in 2027

Formula 1 has confirmed that the Portuguese Grand Prix will return to the F1 calendar in 2027 and 2028. The race will take place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, southern Portugal.

The Algarve circuit hosted F1 races in 2020 and 2021. It offers challenging elevation changes, fast corners, and an exciting layout that often produces unpredictable racing. Portugal will return after the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort leaves the calendar in 2026, keeping the championship at 24 races.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said the Portuguese Grand Prix will excite fans, deliver high-quality racing, and showcase Portugal’s passion for motorsport. The Portuguese government, local promoters, and Turismo de Portugal will support the event.

Portugal has a long history in Formula 1, with races previously held at Porto, Monsanto, and Estoril. Portimão already produced memorable moments, including Lewis Hamilton’s record-breaking 92nd career win in 2021. The Portuguese Grand Prix is expected to boost tourism, support local businesses, and enhance Portugal’s international sporting profile.
