The first Test between New Zealand and West Indies at Hagley Oval ended in a dramatic draw. The visitors produced a strong fourth-innings fightback to save the match. Kemar Roach added a crucial 58* lower down the order. Their efforts carried West Indies to 457/6, the second-highest fourth-innings total in Test history.

New Zealand’s bowlers tried everything, but the visitors held firm. The final two sessions belonged to West Indies. The match eventually ended in a hard-fought draw.

Both teams earned points in the World Test Championship. The series now moves to Wellington for the next Test.
