"The victory gave Pakistan a 1-0 lead and the highest successful chase at Faisalabad in ODIs."

Pakistan claimed a thrilling two-wicket win over South Africa in the first ODI at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. Chasing 264, Pakistan held their nerve to cross the line in the final over and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, delighting the home crowd.

Batting first, South Africa posted a competitive 263, with Quinton de Kock scoring a fluent 63 and Lhuan-dre Pretorius adding a solid 57. Despite a strong start, South Africa lost momentum in the middle overs as Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed bowled superbly, each taking three wickets to keep the visitors under pressure.

In reply, Pakistan’s chase wobbled early but was steadied by Salman Ali Agha (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (55), who built a crucial partnership to bring stability. The tension rose as wickets fell in the final overs, but the lower order, led by Shaheen Afridi, kept their cool to guide Pakistan home with just two balls remaining.

It was a tense and entertaining contest that showcased Pakistan’s fighting spirit and depth, giving them a perfect start to the ODI series and confidence ahead of the remaining matches.
