Galle Gallants Dominate Jaffna Kings in Commanding LPL 2026 Opener

The 2026 Lanka Premier League (LPL) started with an exciting clash as Galle Gallants defeated Jaffna Kings by 36 runs at the SSC Ground in Colombo.

Jaffna Kings won the toss and chose to bowl first. Galle Gallants responded strongly, scoring 213/6 in their 20 overs. Sam Harper gave them a fast start with 40 runs off 19 balls. Charith Asalanka also added valuable runs to strengthen the innings. The Gallants showed aggressive batting throughout their innings.

Jaffna Kings began their chase with a difficult task. They struggled to maintain the required run rate and lost wickets at important moments. Their batters failed to build strong partnerships, and they finished with 177 runs in 19.4 overs.

Eshan Malinga led the Galle bowling attack with an excellent spell of 4 wickets for 26 runs. Akif Javed supported him with 2 wickets, helping the team control the game during key stages.

Galle Gallants earned a strong opening victory in their LPL 2026 campaign. Jaffna Kings will aim to recover in their upcoming matches. The tournament will continue until 8 August, with games scheduled across Colombo, Dambulla, Pallekele, and R. Premadasa Stadium.
