“A strong serving performance helped Djokovic regain control when the match became tense”

Novak Djokovic continued his remarkable Wimbledon journey by defeating Russia’s Roman Safiullin 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the 2026 Championships.

The Serbian faced a tough challenge early in the match as Safiullin raced to a 5-2 lead in the opening set and earned two set points. Djokovic fought back to force a tie-break, winning it 8-6 before taking the second set comfortably. Safiullin responded by claiming the third set, but Djokovic regained control in the fourth to seal victory after around three hours on Centre Court.

The win saw Djokovic achieve another historic milestone, recording his 106th Wimbledon singles victory to surpass Roger Federer’s men’s record. It also marked his 17th Wimbledon quarter-final appearance and his 66th Grand Slam quarter-final.

Djokovic remains on course for a record-equaling eighth Wimbledon title and an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam singles crown. He will now face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals as he continues his pursuit of more tennis history.
