“Another milestone achieved in an already impressive career journey”

Sri Lanka’s national javelin champion Rumesh Tharanga has once again broken the country’s national record in the event.

He achieved this milestone during an athletics competition held today at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium. Tharanga recorded an outstanding throw of 89.37 meters, setting a new benchmark in Sri Lanka’s javelin history.

According to current world rankings, Tharanga is now placed 7th in the world, highlighting his rapid rise on the international stage. This performance surpasses his previous national record of 86.50 meters, which he had set earlier.

Earlier this year, he also impressed with a strong throw of 83.07 meters at a competition in Australia, showing consistent improvement throughout the season.

This latest achievement marks another major moment for Sri Lankan athletics. Tharanga continues to push his limits and strengthen his position as one of the top javelin throwers in the world.
