“Kosgei continues to solidify her status as one of the world’s top marathoners”

Kenyan runner Brigid Kosgei claimed victory in the women’s race at the 2026 Tokyo Marathon, setting a new course and Japanese all-comers record with a time of 2:14:29. Her performance broke the previous course record of 2:15:55 and made her one of the fastest women ever in marathon history.

Kosgei finished more than two minutes ahead of her nearest competitor, Bertukan Welde of Ethiopia, who clocked 2:16:36. Third place went to Hawi Feysa, also from Ethiopia, with a time of 2:17:39. This is Kosgei’s second Tokyo Marathon win, her first being in 2021, and adds to her status as one of the world’s leading marathoners.

In the men’s race, Ethiopia’s Tadese Takele defended his title, finishing in 2:03:37 after a sprint finish with Kenyan Geoffrey Toroitich Kipchumba. Alexander Mutiso Munyao placed third, just one second behind.

The marathon took place under warm, dry conditions, attracting top international runners. Kosgei’s record-breaking run demonstrates her continued dominance on the global marathon circuit and cements her place among the sport’s elite.
