“The narrow win ended a long wait and lifted Cardiff’s confidence at a crucial stage of the season”
Cardiff ended their four-year wait for a victory over Leinster with a hard-fought 8–7 win in the United Rugby Championship at Cardiff Arms Park.
Played in difficult, rainy conditions, the match was tight from start to finish. Cardiff took a 3–0 lead into half-time after Callum Sheedy slotted over a penalty. The wet weather made handling difficult, and both teams struggled to build momentum in attack.
The key moment came in the second half when Mason Grady made a strong break down the touchline before setting up Aled Davies, who scored his first try of the season. Sheedy added the extras to give Cardiff an eight-point lead.
Leinster responded late in the game with a try from Luke McGrath, converted by Charlie Tector, cutting the deficit to just one point. Despite the pressure, Cardiff’s defence held firm in the closing stages to secure the win.
The result ended Leinster’s 11-match winning run in all competitions and gave Cardiff a valuable boost in their push for a play-off place in the URC standings.
