“A statement performance at the perfect stage of the tournament”

West Indies produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Zimbabwe by 107 runs in the Super Eights stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Batting first, West Indies posted a massive 254 for 6 in their 20 overs, one of the highest totals in T20 World Cup history. Shimron Hetmyer led the charge with a stunning 85 runs off just 34 balls. He smashed seven fours and seven sixes and brought up a rapid 19-ball half-century. Rovman Powell supported him well with 59 runs off 35 deliveries, helping the team cross the 250-run mark. The Windies’ powerful hitting included 19 sixes in total.

Chasing a huge target of 255, Zimbabwe struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Brad Evans fought back with 43 runs off 21 balls, hitting five sixes, while Dion Myers added 28 runs. However, regular wickets stopped their momentum.

West Indies’ spinners played a key role in sealing the victory. Gudakesh Motie delivered an excellent spell, taking 4 wickets for 28 runs. Akeal Hosein also impressed with 3 for 28, as the spin duo dismantled Zimbabwe’s batting lineup. Zimbabwe were eventually bowled out for 147 in 17.4 overs.

With this big win, West Indies strengthened their position in the Super Eights and boosted their net run rate significantly. Shimron Hetmyer was named Player of the Match for his explosive innings.
