“Sri Lanka’s bowlers showed discipline and composure under pressure”
Sri Lanka Women began their ODI series with a hard-fought 10-run victory over West Indies Women at the National Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada.
After West Indies won the toss and chose to field, Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 240 for 6 in 50 overs. Hasini Perera scored a solid 61, while Harshitha Samarawickrama anchored the innings with 66. Captain Chamari Athapaththu added 27 runs, and the middle order chipped in with useful contributions to push the total past 200.
In reply, West Indies fought strongly in the chase. Stafanie Taylor led the effort with 66 runs, and Jannilea Glasgow contributed 50. However, Sri Lanka’s bowlers kept their composure in the final overs. Spinner Inoka Ranaweera delivered a match-winning spell, taking 4 wickets for 44 runs and breaking key partnerships at crucial moments.
West Indies were eventually bowled out for 230 in 49.4 overs, falling 10 runs short of the target. With this win, Sri Lanka took a 1–0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
