“The team stayed calm under pressure and made key decisions when it mattered most”

Sri Lanka have directly qualified for the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after reaching the Super Eight stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup. This ensures they will play in the next edition without going through qualifiers.

Under ICC rules, all teams reaching the Super Eights in 2026 automatically earn spots for 2028. Alongside Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, England, South Africa, West Indies, Zimbabwe, and New Zealand have also secured their places. Hosts Australia and New Zealand already had guaranteed spots.

The remaining automatic qualifiers will come from ICC T20I rankings after the 2026 tournament. Teams like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Ireland may earn these spots based on their rankings.

Sri Lanka performed strongly in the 2026 tournament, especially in the group stages. Their consistent results helped them reach the Super Eight and secure qualification for 2028.

This achievement reflects the team’s strength and consistency. They now look forward to competing for T20 glory in 2028.
