“It was a reminder that balance wins tournaments, not just big names”

Australia made a strong start to their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a dominant win over Ireland in Colombo.

Batting first, Australia posted a competitive 182/6 in 20 overs. Marcus Stoinis led the way with 45 from 29 balls, while Josh Inglis smashed a quick 37 off 17. Matt Renshaw also chipped in with 37, helping Australia build a challenging total.

Ireland’s chase never got going. Captain Paul Stirling was forced to retire hurt after facing just one ball, and early wickets put them under heavy pressure. From there, Australia’s bowlers took control.

Nathan Ellis delivered a brilliant spell, taking 4 for 12 and ripping through the top order. Adam Zampa followed up with 4 for 23, cleaning up the middle and lower order. Ireland were bowled out for 115 in 16.5 overs.

Australia won by 67 runs and sent a clear message to the rest of the group. It was a complete team performance and a confident start to their World Cup journey.
