“This dominant performance gives South Africa a confident start in Group D”
South Africa started their T20 World Cup campaign with a commanding 57-run victory over Canada at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Batting first, the Proteas posted a strong total of 213 for 4 in 20 overs.
Aiden Markram led the innings with 59 runs off 32 balls, while Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Ryan Rickelton, and Quinton de Kock all made valuable contributions. Their late-over hitting helped South Africa set a challenging target for the Canadian side.
Chasing 214, Canada could only manage 156 for 8. Navneet Dhaliwal top-scored with 64, and Harsh Thaker added 33, but the team struggled to keep up with the required run rate.
South Africa’s bowling attack was outstanding. Lungi Ngidi picked up 4 wickets for 31 runs, earning Player of the Match, while Marco Jansen took 2 key wickets. For Canada, Ansh Patel took 3 wickets but could not stop the Proteas’ momentum.
The win gives South Africa a strong start in Group D, highlighting their depth in batting and strength in bowling. Canada showed fight, but South Africa dominated in all departments to secure a comfortable victory.
