“Team effort outweighed individual brilliance when it mattered most.”
Sunrisers Eastern Cape lifted the SA20 trophy after a thrilling final against Pretoria Capitals at Newlands, Cape Town. In front of a packed crowd, they showed great composure to win another major title.
Pretoria Capitals batted first and posted 158 for 7. Dewald Brevis was the star of the innings, smashing a brilliant century that kept the Capitals in the game. The Sunrisers bowlers, especially Marco Jansen, kept things tight and stopped the scoring in the later overs.
Chasing the target, Sunrisers got off to a poor start and were in trouble early. However, Matthew Breetzke and Tristan Stubbs built a match-winning partnership with smart batting and strong running between the wickets. They paced the chase well and finished the game with four balls to spare.
This victory gave Sunrisers Eastern Cape their third SA20 title in just four seasons, underlining their dominance in the tournament. Their mix of young local talent and experienced players once again proved too strong for the opposition.
