“A series built on strong partnerships and calm decision-making under pressure.”
New Zealand made history by winning their first-ever ODI series on Indian soil after defeating India 2–1 in the three-match series. The series decider was played in Indore, where the visitors produced a strong and confident all-round performance.
Batting first, New Zealand scored 337 for 8. Daryl Mitchell led the innings with a brilliant 137, while Glenn Phillips added a fast and attacking 106. Their big partnership put India under pressure and gave New Zealand a challenging total to defend.
India fought hard in the chase. Virat Kohli played a classy knock and scored a superb century, keeping hopes alive for the home side. However, the rest of the batting line-up could not maintain the required run rate. India were eventually bowled out for 296, losing the match by 41 runs.
This win is special because New Zealand had never won a bilateral ODI series in India before. It also ended India’s long unbeaten run in home ODI series. The Black Caps celebrated a famous and well-earned victory that will be remembered for many years.
