“With a 2–0 lead, Australia now look firmly in control of the Ashes series.”
Australia strengthened their Ashes lead with a dominant eight-wicket win over England in the second Test at the Gabba, taking a 2–0 lead in the five-match series.
England scored 334 in their first innings and 241 in the second. Australia had already built a commanding total of 511 in their first innings. Needing just 65 runs to win, they chased the target comfortably in about 10 overs.
Michael Neser starred with a five-wicket haul on his return to Test cricket. He broke England’s batting early and put pressure on the visitors. England’s only resistance came from a 96-run partnership between Ben Stokes and Will Jacks. Once it ended, Australia quickly sealed the victory.
Steve Smith remained unbeaten and finished the match with a confident six. He also took a crucial catch to dismiss Jacks, turning the momentum decisively.
With this win, Australia hold a strong series advantage. England now face a tough task to recover in the remaining three Tests.
