“Sometimes postponing a tournament is the first step toward hosting a world-class event.”

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced that the 2025 Lanka Premier League (LPL), originally scheduled from November 27 to December 23, will be postponed. The board made this decision to focus on preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which Sri Lanka will co-host with India.

SLC will use the extra time to upgrade stadiums, improve player facilities, modernize broadcast systems, and enhance media centres. The LPL 2025, which was to feature five franchises – Colombo Kaps, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings, Kandy Falcons, and Dambulla – will now take place at a later date.

Officials said postponing the LPL allows players, staff, and organizers to focus on improving cricket quality. They also highlighted that it ensures a better fan experience and prepares the venues to meet international standards. SLC emphasized that this move reflects their commitment to hosting a world-class T20 World Cup.
