“West Indies combine batting brilliance with ruthless pace bowling”
West Indies produced a dominant all-round performance to beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs in the first Test of the two-match Sobers-Tissera Trophy. The victory gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the series.
Sri Lanka scored 308 in their first innings, but West Indies responded with a commanding 626 for 9 declared. Amir Jangoo led the way with a magnificent double century, while captain Roston Chase added a brilliant century. Together, they built a world-record 401-run partnership for the sixth wicket and put the hosts firmly in control.
Sri Lanka returned to bat but struggled against the West Indies pace attack. Kemar Roach took four wickets and became only the fifth West Indies bowler to reach 300 Test wickets. Jayden Seales supported him with three wickets as the visitors collapsed for 101.
Amir Jangoo earned the Player of the Match award for his outstanding double century. West Indies celebrated one of their biggest Test victories and moved one win away from sealing the series.
