“Czech Republic started strong, but South Korea finished stronger when it counted”
South Korea came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Czech Republic in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group A.
Czech Republic took the lead in the 59th minute through Ladislav Krejčí, who scored with a strong header from a set-piece. At that point, South Korea were under pressure and struggling to break through.
However, South Korea responded quickly. In the 67th minute, Hwang In-beom found the equalizer after a well-worked move, bringing his team back into the game.
The momentum then shifted completely. In the 80th minute, substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu scored the winning goal, finishing a chance created by Hwang In-beom, who played a key role in the comeback.
