Sri Lanka’s Athletics Stars Bring Home Medals from 2025 Continental Championships

Sri Lanka’s top athletes have returned home with pride after an impressive performance at the 2025 World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze-level event in Bhubaneswar, India. Their achievements mark a proud moment in the nation’s athletics history, showing great skill, determination, and teamwork on the continental stage.

The men’s 4×400m relay team — Omel de Silva, Sadew Rajakaruna, Inesh Dismitha, and Kalhara Indupa Silva — won the gold medal with a time of 3:08.22. Their teamwork and speed thrilled the crowd and set the tone for Sri Lanka’s success.

In the field events, Rumesh Tharanga stood out in the men’s javelin throw by setting a new national record of 86.50 meters. His gold medal performance also earned him direct qualification for the 2025 World Athletics Championships, raising hopes for further success on the global stage.

On the women’s side, Nadeesha Dilhani Lekamge delivered a strong performance in the javelin throw, earning the silver medal with a throw of 54.96 meters. Sumeda Ranasinghe added to the medal count with a bronze in the men’s javelin, throwing 80.65 meters and contributing to Sri Lanka’s dominance in that event.
