Pogacar Claims World Title with Stunning Solo Attack

"Finishing on the podium at a World Championship is special, and to make history for Ireland makes it even better."

Tadej Pogacar won the men’s road race at the 2025 UCI World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda. He attacked early on Mont Kigali with more than 100 kilometers still to ride. At first, he was joined by Juan Ayuso and Isaac del Toro, but both were dropped as the race went on.

This left Pogacar riding alone for about 66 kilometers. He held off all the chasers and crossed the line in 6 hours 21 minutes 20 seconds.

Remco Evenepoel of Belgium finished second, 1 minute 28 seconds behind. Ben Healy of Ireland took third place, earning Ireland’s first men’s world medal since 1989.

The race was extremely tough, with many climbs and cobbled roads. Only 30 riders made it to the finish.

This victory gave Pogacar his second straight world title after also winning in 2024. It also made him the first man to win both the Tour de France and the World Championship road race in the same year two years in a row.
