Moon Makes History with Third Straight World Championship

American pole vaulter Katie Moon has made history by winning her third consecutive world championship in the women's pole vault at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Moon secured the gold medal with a season-best vault of 4.90 meters, narrowly defeating fellow American Sandi Morris, who cleared 4.85 meters, and Slovenia’s Tina Sutej, who took bronze with a 4.80-meter clearance. This victory makes Moon the first woman in history to win three consecutive world titles in pole vault.

At 34 years old, Moon also became the oldest woman to win a world pole vault title, showcasing exceptional longevity and consistency at the highest level.
