Olav Kooij claimed his first Tour de France stage victory with a perfectly timed sprint to win Stage Five on his race debut. The Dutch rider completed the 158.3km route from Lannemezan to Pau in 3 hours, 29 minutes and 7 seconds. He crossed the line ahead of Max Kanter and Tim Merlier to secure the biggest win of his career.

The stage looked set for a routine bunch sprint after the peloton reeled in the day's early breakaway. However, a crash inside the final five kilometres changed the race dramatically. The incident split the field and disrupted several teams' sprint trains.

Kooij stayed calm through the late chaos and launched his sprint at the perfect moment. The 24-year-old seized the opportunity to celebrate a memorable victory in his first Tour de France appearance. Several pre-race favourites also lost their chance to compete for the stage win after the crash.

Norway's Torstein Træen successfully retained the yellow jersey despite the dramatic finish. Tadej Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel also crossed the line safely with the lead group. The overall standings remained unchanged ahead of the next stage in the Pyrenees.
