Finucane Breaks World Sprint Record in Historic Ride

Welsh track cyclist Emma Finucane made history at the 2026 UEC Track Elite European Championships in Turkey. She set a new world record in the women’s flying 200m time trial with a time of 9.759 seconds, becoming only the third woman ever to break 10 seconds in this event.

Finucane rode with incredible speed and precision, reaching an average of around 73.78 kph (45.84 mph). She broke the previous record by 0.017 seconds, showcasing her explosive power, skill, and focus on the track. Her British teammate Sophie Capewell also posted a sub-10 second time earlier, highlighting the strength of the team.

The 23-year-old sprinter already has an impressive career, including multiple European and world sprint titles, Olympic team sprint gold, and individual bronze medals in sprint and keirin at the Paris Olympics.
