"British cycling is stronger than ever; having three of us in the top five shows the future is bright."

Harry Hudson of Great Britain won the junior men’s road race at the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda. The 119 km race tested the riders with several steep climbs.

Hudson attacked with 36 km to go on a climb when the pace slowed. He rode solo to the finish, crossing the line 16 seconds ahead of his rivals. France’s Johan Blanc took silver, and Poland’s Jan Michal Jackowiak earned bronze.

Britain enjoyed a strong day, with Max Hinds and Matthew Peace finishing in the top five. This dominant display highlighted the depth of British junior cycling.

Hudson became the first British male rider to win the junior men’s world title. Soon after the race, the Lidl-Trek team announced that he would join their development squad in 2026.

After the win, Hudson said his attack was instinctive rather than planned. He admitted he feared being caught but stayed focused and held on. He called the victory “crazy” and the best moment of his young career.
