“Every sprint rewards courage, precision, and unwavering determination”
Tim Merlier claimed victory in Stage 7 of the 2026 Tour de France after producing a perfectly timed sprint finish in Bordeaux. The Belgian rider completed the 175.1 km stage from Hagetmau in 3 hours, 28 minutes and 52 seconds to secure his fourth career Tour de France stage win.
The stage favoured the sprinters, with an early breakaway caught before the final kilometres. Merlier stayed patient during the hectic finish before finding a gap and powering past his rivals to cross the line first. Søren Wærenskjold finished second, while Biniam Girmay completed the podium in third.
After the race, Merlier praised his Soudal Quick-Step teammates for helping him stay in contention during the closing stages. He also dedicated the victory to teammate Bert Van Lerberghe, who had withdrawn from the Tour earlier in the race.
The result did not change the overall standings, as Tadej Pogačar safely retained the yellow jersey. With several key stages still to come before the race reaches Paris, the battle for the Tour de France title remains wide open and promises more exciting competition in the days ahead.
