“The performance raised expectations for his final and future competitions”
Tharp produced a stunning performance at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where he set a new world record in the 110m hurdles.
The 20-year-old athlete from Auburn, Alabama, ran an incredible 12.75 seconds, surpassing the previous world record of 12.80 seconds. His performance also broke the long-standing collegiate record and instantly became one of the biggest moments in recent athletics history.
Before this race, Tharp’s personal best stood at 13.01 seconds. However, he delivered a massive improvement on the biggest stage, producing a performance he himself admitted he did not fully expect.
His record run also made history, as it became the first world record set at the NCAA Championships in over five decades.
Tharp now moves into the final round of the competition, where he will aim to continue his dominance and secure another NCAA title.
