“Senegal’s early dominance proved that fast starts don’t always guarantee a finish”
Belgium secured their place in the World Cup 2026 Round of 16 after a dramatic 3–2 win over Senegal in the Round of 32.
Senegal started the match strongly and took a 2–0 lead, putting Belgium under early pressure. They controlled much of the first half with fast attacking play and looked confident in front of goal.
However, Belgium slowly found their rhythm and began to push back. In the closing stages of regular time, they pulled a goal back and shifted the momentum of the match. Their attacking pressure increased as Senegal tried to defend their lead.
The game became even more intense in the final moments, with Belgium scoring again to level the match and force extra time. In the extra period, Belgium managed to complete the comeback with a late decisive goal after sustained pressure and VAR involvement.
With this victory, Belgium move into the last 16 of the tournament, while Senegal are eliminated after a strong but heartbreaking performance.
