“West Indies bowlers kept constant pressure, leaving Bangladesh few chances to settle.”

In the opening match of the T20 series, the West Indies defeated Bangladesh by 16 runs at the Bir Shreshtho Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram. As a result, the West Indies now lead the three-match series 1–0.

Batting first, the West Indies scored 165/3 in 20 overs. Captain Shai Hope made 46* off 28 balls, while Rovman Powell, playing his 100th T20I, added 44* off 29 balls. Together, their partnership in the final overs helped the team post a competitive total.

Chasing 166, Bangladesh struggled early. They lost crucial wickets and finished at 149 all out in 19.4 overs. Although Tanzid Hasan Sakib scored 33 and Nasum Ahmed added 20, it was not enough to win.

Meanwhile, West Indies bowlers Jason Holder and Jayden Seales took three wickets each. Their efforts kept Bangladesh under pressure throughout the innings. Consequently, Rovman Powell’s unbeaten 44 earned him the Player of the Match award for his milestone 100th T20I.

The second T20 will take place in Kingstown, St. Vincent. Bangladesh will aim to bounce back, while the West Indies hope to extend their series lead.
