“Officials continue to monitor the situation before confirming new match dates”
The cricket series between Sri Lanka cricket team and Afghanistan cricket team has been postponed due to rising tensions in the Middle East.
The series was scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates from March 13 to March 25, 2026. It was planned as a white-ball series featuring three One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals. The T20 matches were set to be played in Sharjah, while the ODI matches were scheduled for Dubai.
However, increasing conflict and security concerns in the region have affected travel and logistics. Because of this situation, officials decided to postpone the tour to ensure the safety of players, officials, and support staff.
The series was expected to be an important preparation opportunity for both teams ahead of upcoming international tournaments. Afghanistan was also set to host Sri Lanka for this bilateral series, although the matches were planned in the UAE due to venue arrangements.
Both cricket boards agreed that safety must remain the top priority. They will announce new dates for the series once the situation in the region becomes more stable. Officials remain hopeful that the series can be rescheduled and played later this year.
