“We stayed aggressive but also played smart cricket when it mattered most”
Sri Lanka produced a commanding all-round display to overwhelm Oman in their T20 World Cup clash, sealing a massive 105-run victory at Pallekele.
Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka set the tone early with positive intent. Kusal Mendis anchored the innings with a fluent 61, while Pavan Rathnayake lit up the middle overs with a rapid 60 off just 28 deliveries. Captain Dasun Shanaka then finished in style, smashing 50 from only 19 balls, as Sri Lanka raced to an imposing 225 for 5 in their 20 overs.
Oman’s chase never really took off. Although Mohammad Nadeem showed resistance with an unbeaten 53, wickets fell regularly at the other end. Sri Lanka’s bowlers maintained tight lines and clever variations, with Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theekshana striking at crucial moments to break any growing partnerships.
In the end, Oman were restricted to 120 for 9, far short of the daunting target. The result gave Sri Lanka a big boost in net run rate and strengthened their position in the group stage.
It was a dominant team effort from Sri Lanka, combining explosive batting, disciplined bowling, and sharp fielding to control the match from start to finish.
