“SpeedBay’s initiative connects local racers with the international karting community”
SpeedBay launched Sri Lanka’s first SWS Sprint Championship, marking a major milestone for karting and grassroots motorsport in the country. The championship forms part of the global Sodi World Series (SWS), where drivers compete in organized races and earn international rankings.
The event took place at the SpeedBay karting circuit in Port City, Colombo, one of the country’s modern racing venues. The opening round drew strong participation, with around 33 Sodi karts competing in fast sprint races. These races tested the drivers’ speed, control, and racing skills on the track.
The SWS Sprint format emphasizes individual performance. Drivers earn points based on their finishing positions in each race, and these results contribute to the global SWS rankings. This system allows Sri Lankan racers to compete alongside international drivers.
Moreover, the launch of the championship represents a positive step for developing karting and entry-level motorsport in Sri Lanka. It provides young and amateur drivers with a platform to gain racing experience and showcase their talent.
With strong participation in the first race, the SWS Sprint Championship is expected to increase interest in karting and strengthen the future of motorsport in the country.
