“South Africa’s balanced performance proved too strong on the day”

South Africa produced a strong all-round performance to defeat New Zealand by seven wickets in their T20 World Cup Group D match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

New Zealand batted first and scored 175 for 7 in their 20 overs. Finn Allen gave them a quick start with 31 runs, while Mark Chapman top-scored with 48. Daryl Mitchell added 32 to keep the innings steady. However, South Africa’s bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Marco Jansen was the standout performer with the ball, picking up 4 wickets for 40 runs and stopping New Zealand from posting a bigger total.

Chasing 176, South Africa looked confident from the beginning. Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis made useful contributions at the top. Captain Aiden Markram then played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 86 off 44 balls. He controlled the chase with aggressive and smart batting. David Miller supported him well with 24 not out as South Africa reached 178 for 3 in just 17.1 overs, finishing the match with 17 balls to spare.

The victory strengthened South Africa’s position in Group D with three wins from three matches. New Zealand, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the tournament.
