“Greens are setting the standard — and everyone else is chasing.”
The SLC Greens continued their dominant run in the SLC T20 League with a crushing 72-run victory over the Blues at the Sinhalese Sports Club, sealing their third consecutive win in style.
After being sent in to bat, the Greens faced early trouble, losing quick wickets and slipping to 57 for 5. Just when the Blues looked in control, Kamindu Mendis (50 off 39) and Chamika Karunaratne (41* off 30) produced a brilliant 82-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Their stand turned the innings around and lifted the Greens to a competitive total of 158 for 6.
Chasing 159, the Blues never settled. The Greens’ bowling attack, led by Dushan Hemantha with a superb 4 for 18, tore through the batting order. Karunaratne added to his all-round performance with two key wickets, as the Blues collapsed to 86 all out in just 15 overs.
This emphatic win keeps the Greens firmly on top of the table and brings them closer to securing a spot in the final. The Blues, however, will need to regroup quickly to stay in the race.
