“It was a rough year, but my team dragged me through it. They pick me up when I’m down.”
Xander Schauffele ended his 14-month title drought by winning the Baycurrent Classic in Yokohama, Japan. This is his 10th PGA Tour win and his first since winning The Open Championship in 2024.
Schauffele played brilliantly in the final round, shooting 7-under 64 with eight birdies and one bogey, finishing at 19-under 265 overall. He narrowly beat fellow American Max Greyserman, who was the runner-up for the second consecutive year.
Japan holds special meaning for Schauffele, as his mother grew up there, his wife is half-Japanese, and his grandparents live in the country. His family joined the celebration, including his 81-year-old grandmother who walked the course with him.
Reflecting on the past year, Schauffele said he faced challenges like a rib injury and moments of self-doubt, but his team supported him throughout. He called the victory a personal and professional comeback, marking a strong return to form.
