“Raducanu aims to regain full fitness and top form for the new season.”

Emma Raducanu pulled out of her United Cup match against Japan’s Naomi Osaka in Perth, Australia, on 4 January 2026. She was scheduled to play in Great Britain’s opening tie but withdrew because of a persistent foot injury that has troubled her since late 2025.

Katie Swan replaced Raducanu in the singles. Naomi Osaka defeated Swan 7–6(4), 6–1. Despite the loss, Great Britain won the tie 2–1. Victories in men’s singles and mixed doubles secured the team’s win.

Team GB captain Tim Henman said the team is carefully managing Raducanu’s recovery. Her participation in upcoming matches remains uncertain, but the goal is to have her compete at her best.

The United Cup acts as an important preparation event for the 2026 Australian Open, which begins on 18 January. This gives Raducanu a chance to regain full fitness before the Grand Slam.

Raducanu, a former US Open champion, focuses on returning to top form and building momentum for the new season.
