“Nepal has shown the world that determination and teamwork can overcome the biggest challenges in cricket.”
Nepal created history by defeating West Indies to claim their first-ever T20I series victory against a full ICC member. The three-match series took place in the United Arab Emirates, and Nepal emerged dominant in both matches they won.
Firstly, the series began with a stunning performance in the first T20I at Sharjah, where Nepal beat West Indies by 19 runs. This marked Nepal’s first T20I win over a full ICC member team.
Then, in the second match, Nepal sealed the series with a commanding 90-run victory. Batting first, Nepal posted 173 for 6, powered by Aasif Sheikh’s 68 not out and Sundeep Jora’s 63. In response, West Indies were bowled out for 83, with Mohammad Aadil Alam taking 4 wickets for 24 runs.
As a result, this victory set multiple records: it was the largest margin of victory by an associate nation over a full ICC member in a T20 match and also saw the lowest T20 total by a full member against an associate team.
Nepal captain Rohit Paudel expressed pride in the team’s achievement and said it was a significant milestone for Nepalese cricket. Meanwhile, West Indies captain Akeal Hosein praised Nepal’s performance, admitting that his team struggled to match the level of intensity.
Overall, the series win not only highlights Nepal’s growing strength in international cricket but also inspires other associate nations that achieving historic victories is possible.
