“The result reflected Nepal’s steady growth in youth volleyball and Sri Lanka’s need to tighten consistency under pressure.”
Nepal recorded a memorable 3–1 victory over hosts Sri Lanka in the CAVA Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
The Sri Lankan team started confidently but struggled with crucial errors in key moments. Nepal took the first two sets 25–18 and 26–24. Sri Lanka fought back in the third set, winning 25–19, but Nepal sealed the match 25–20 in the fourth set.
Nepal captain Jenisha Biswakarma led from the front with 21 points, while Mina Sunar and Nisha Mahar supported well in attack. Sri Lanka’s captain Sulakshana Pasiduni Abeyrathne scored 19 points and tried to rally her team, but Nepal’s consistency made the difference.
This was Sri Lanka’s first defeat in the tournament, while Nepal earned their first win. The championship continues in Colombo until November 9, featuring teams from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, and the Maldives.
