“A true legacy is measured by the influence and inspiration left behind for future generations.”
Lionel Messi has extended his contract with Inter Miami until the 2028 MLS season. He will remain with the club for the coming years.
MLS did not disclose financial details, but Messi remains the league’s highest-paid player. His new deal gives him equity in the club after retirement. It also ensures he will play in Inter Miami’s new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, when it opens in 2026.
Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, Messi has scored 71 goals and provided 37 assists in 82 games. He led the team to win the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters’ Shield. His presence also boosted the club’s value to $1.2 billion.
Messi will play through 2028 and may represent Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Co-owner David Beckham praised Messi’s commitment. MLS Commissioner Don Garber called his arrival a turning point for soccer in North America.
This contract extension will help Messi continue building his legacy at Inter Miami and in MLS, both on and off the field.
