“England join Australia and South Africa in the semi-finals with confidence.”
England secured their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup with a thrilling four-run victory over India in Indore.
Batting first, England posted 288/8. Heather Knight celebrated her 300th international match with a brilliant 109 off 91 balls, while Amy Jones added 56 and Nat Sciver-Brunt contributed 25. Deepti Sharma was the standout for India with 4 wickets for 51 runs.
India fought back strongly, with Smriti Mandhana scoring 88 and Harmanpreet Kaur making 70. They needed 13 runs from the final over, but Linsey Smith held her nerve, conceding only 4 runs and dismissing Mandhana to seal the win. Sciver-Brunt also took 2 wickets for 47 runs.
With this victory, England join Australia and South Africa in the semi-finals. India, now on three consecutive losses, must win their remaining matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh to stay in contention.
