“The USTA believes he can drive strong growth in tennis participation across the United States.”
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has appointed Australian Open director Craig Tiley as its new Chief Executive Officer. He will lead US tennis and oversee major events, including the US Open.
Tiley has been a key figure in global tennis for many years. He became tournament director of the Australian Open in 2006 and later served as CEO of Tennis Australia from 2013. Under his leadership, the Australian Open expanded into a 15-day event and regularly set new attendance and revenue records.
Before moving into administration, Tiley built a strong coaching career in the United States. He led the University of Illinois men’s tennis team to an NCAA national championship in 2003.
Tiley will remain with Tennis Australia for a few months to ensure a smooth transition before fully taking over his new role in the United States. The USTA believes his experience and leadership will help grow the sport further, with a goal of increasing tennis participation across the country in the coming years.
His appointment marks a major leadership change in world tennis, linking two of the sport’s biggest Grand Slam tournaments — the Australian Open and the US Open.
