“This fund gives athletes the security they need to chase Olympic dreams.”
Australia has launched a new funding program to support Olympic athletes ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Games. The program, called the Olympian Futures Fund, aims to provide financial stability to athletes during their careers and even after retirement.
The fund will total around A$50 million, starting with a A$20 million contribution from the Australian Olympic Foundation. Athletes selected to represent Australia from the 2026 Winter Olympics through 2032 will receive A$5,000 to help cover training and competition costs. This support ensures athletes can focus on performance without worrying about financial pressures.
The program also offers a A$32,000 retirement grant, paid 16 years after competition, to help athletes transition to life after sport. In addition, mothers returning to elite competition can receive a “Return to Olympic Sport” grant starting at A$10,000. This initiative encourages female athletes to continue their careers after childbirth.
Officials say the fund will encourage longer athletic careers, promote gender equity, and reduce financial pressure as Australia prepares to host the 2032 Olympics. They also hope it will inspire young Australians to pursue elite sport with confidence, knowing support is available at every stage.
