“Efficient finishing in key moments made the difference between the two sides”

Sweden began their World Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing 5–1 victory over Tunisia in Monterrey, delivering a strong attacking performance from the first whistle.

Sweden took control early through quick passing and high pressure. Yasin Ayari opened the scoring after a defensive mistake, before Alexander Isak doubled the lead with a clinical finish on the counterattack. Tunisia managed to pull one back through Omar Rekik, briefly making it 2–1 and putting some pressure back on Sweden.

However, Sweden responded well and regained full control before halftime. In the second half, the partnership between Isak and Viktor Gyökeres became the highlight of the match, with Gyökeres scoring after a well-worked attacking move involving Isak. Ayari then added his second goal of the game with a powerful strike from distance.

Sweden continued to dominate possession and chances, and late in the match substitute Mattias Svanberg added a fifth goal to complete the rout.

Overall, Sweden’s attacking trio of Isak, Gyökeres, and Ayari stood out, combining speed, movement, and finishing quality. Tunisia struggled defensively and were unable to match Sweden’s intensity throughout the game.
